First time with paperclay!

O.K., I primed the sides of the house with a spray primer (but I didn't notice it was a dark gray/black color, instead of white. Shouldn't matter though.)

I painted some more of the window parts white today.

I also paperclayed one of the chimneys to make it look like stone.

I hope it stays on. Should be dry tomorrow. I already saw some cracks, but I tried to re-wet the clay and fix what I could.

When it is dry I will paint it gray with some brownish in it too. Hrmmmm.

Sealing and painting

I've put woodfiller on some of the cracked window parts. Then I put sealer on window parts as well as the walls of the house.

The walls of the house are not completely flat, which is making it hard to keep the house together with masking tape. (I've seen people do "dry runs" with masking tape and wanted to try it myself.) I will try again tomorrow. Today I painted a few of the window parts white.

This project is very slow going. Hopefully I will buy some paperclay this week so I can start on the wall of the house. It looks really sloppy right now, but I'm hoping to cover it all up with the paperclay.

Chimney

Tonight I worked on the chimney. My workstation was very messy.

I realize now that masking tape is pretty important. I do not have any. I don't have a clamp either. So I had to hold the tiny bits together until the glue set a bit. This was not fun. I skipped a lot of tiny steps because I will be covering up the chimney with paperclay and don't need the details included with the kit.
I used the glue bottle as a weight.

The first kit to arrive. . .

was the Willow! I opened the package and was horrified to see many, many fragile wooden bits. I realized these were mostly shingles and siding and put them aside.

I have set up my workstation, and have begun sawing away with my little exact0 knife.

Also, I'm tweaking the kit a bit. O.K., more like A LOT. I've been told this is completely crazy, but I really want to model this house after the cottage in the movie "The H0liday." This means I'm changing it from a 3 story, to a 2 story, and changing the window layout. I'll have to make new notches, and I've only done one so far today. This will obviously be a long project, but I will not rush it.
As for the Buttercup kit (which should be arriving tomorrow), I was thinking about modeling it after the Ch0colaterie in the movie, "Ch0colat."

Hopefully, I have not set my goals too high!

My Mini Home Blog

I have 2 kits coming in the mail-- the Will0w, and the Buttercup. I have no idea which will arrive first. I am hoping to have some kind of theme for the kits. One possibility is the cottage from "The H0liday."

I will hopefully buy the DVD today. I am slowly gathering materials, and spending quite a bit of time searching the Greenleaf forums for tips and advice. I'm very excited to get started!
